ABOUT NJ MARCOM COUNCIL

The NJ MarCom Council Inc. is dedicated to uniting the existing professional marketing and communications organizations in New Jersey for promotion and synergistic activities of benefit to all member business organizations and their constituents. Our core goal is to identify business people in New Jersey and align their interests and career goals with the local organization best suited to serve their needs.

Committee members of the Council are comprised of leaders (or their assignments) from the participating organizations: individuals authorized to vote on, and commit to, activities and decisions on behalf of the local organizations that are participating members. Joint events (held Summer and Holiday) are provided at a moderate rate, with any profits distributed back to participating organizations for the benefit of their local organizations. Expenses, purchases and final balance sheets are reviewed by committee members.

Participation by an organization must meet certain criteria (determined/reviewed by committee members):

  • The organization must have an active local group in New Jersey
  • The organization must be focused on Marketing, Communications, Advertising, or any number of industries that support those audiences such as, but not exclusive to, services or supplies for: Web, Print, Interactive Media, News Media, Broadcast, Radio, Promotion, Tradeshow, E-commerce, Direct Mail, etc.
  • The organization must agree to promote the event as a Joint Event (inclusive of all participating organizations) and give appropriate representation of the sponsors according to the sponsor contracts.
  • The organization must provide representation of their group at the Event (with volunteers to greet interested prospects). The organization should try to differentiate themselves and their unique value proposition.
  • The organization must provide volunteers adequate to the tasks associated with an event of this size, allocating their member resources to participate in pre-determined time slots and tasks such as: ballroom greeter, registration table sign-in, sponsor handler, etc.
  • The organization must support best practices in email marketing, allowing recipients to unsubscribe or opt-out of their email list at any time.

Each organization provides a representative to serve on the committee. The organization committee member must:

  • Accept tasks in a shared manner consistent with the needs of the event and to their organization’s capacity to provide support for: venue selection, contract negotiation, communications campaign design, copywriting, accounts receivable, accounts payable, email, verbal promotion and recognition, sponsor solicitation and support, menu selection, volunteer coordination, organization representation, decorations, public relations activities, list management.
  • Assert that the organization is well-meaning in its prospecting from the declared ‘non-member’ audience, only adding another organization’s ‘member’ to their own email list upon direct request from that individual.

Recently approved as a 501(c)6 not-for-profit, this start-up business organization is Chaired by Wendy Flanagan, who has informally led joint summer and holiday networking events for the past few years. Ms. Flanagan, Co-President of Murray, has served as President of IABC NJ, on the board of the NJAMA, and is currently on the board of the NJAdClub. She has been recognized in the industry, inducted into the New Jersey Advertising Hall of Fame and named one of NJ's 50 Best Women in Business by NJBIZ. Other NJ MarCom Council Board Members include Chuck Beardsley, Diane Mensinger and Fern Dickey.

Board of Directors
The Board of Directors for NJ MarCom Council oversees planning meetings and documents the agreed procedures for the participating groups, tallying one vote per participating organization on any given referendum, and implementing the actions accordingly in an impartial manner. The Board may make recommendations based on past activities to help ensure that operating costs are offset by income. The Board will solicit sponsorships. The Board may recommend membership to an appropriate organization based on an individual's inquiry and interests.
